Bun Mee
SFO Terminal 3
San Francisco, CA
A popular Vietnamese sandwich eatery, Bun Mee infiltrated the San Francisco International Airport after having two successful stores on Fillmore and Market St. The main graphic wall features Mama Tran, the mother of Denise Tran, who is the owner of Bun Mee. Phillip Hua, was commissioned to create the artwork. He has done various other projects included artwork for SFMTA. His art was then printed on individual glass tiles. The mosaic effect is intensified through the grid pattern and layering of textures. The graphic mural draws customers in from the terminal. Other materials used include white oak, black corrugated metal, and blackened steel, which parallels the store on Market St. Although the entire project is only 670 sq ft (including the back of house kitchen), the design packs a punch and the colorful printed tiles draw the attention of numerous passengers throughout the terminal.
