Bun Mee
SFO Terminal 1
San Francisco, CA
After having a successful execution at Terminal 3 and various stores in the city, Bun Mee won a lease space for the newly built Terminal 1 at SFO. The previous project featured a darker material palette. The client expressed an interest to experiment with a lighter materials while still keeping the design on brand. The concept of a food stall was taken into consideration, with a strong emphasis on a graphic mural. The trellis and order counter seem to pop out from the wall, much like a food stall, while passengers are able to queue up on both sides of the lease.
A graphic mural wall acts as an attention grabber and is designed as if an old advertisement has been painted over to resemble a new painting or art mural. A layered effect is achieved through different means of application. A combination of both printing and hand painting the concrete walls adds to the patina and desired “wear and tear” look of the wall. A wall graphic was produced as a temporary placeholder in the render to convey the brand of Bun Mee. The use of white oak wood, white corrugated metal, and white tiles provide a lighter and inviting feel to the overall space. Graphics play a strong role in the design for many of Bun Mee’s stores. They have been strategically placed and will be developed to achieve the perfect layered look.
